MISSION RUN/WALK 2023

LABUAN- On November 19th, Church of the Blessed Sacrament Labuan organized a fundraising event called the Mission Run/Walk 2023, which aimed to promote the theme “Life is a mission.” The chosen theme encapsulates the belief that each individual is called to fulfil a purpose greater than themselves. It serves as a reminder that our lives are not simply a series of random events, but rather an opportunity to make a positive impact on the world around us. The event offered two main options: 7km run and 3km walk. The inclusion of various categories, such as veteran, open and students of both genders, ensured that individuals from diverse backgrounds could participate and contribute to the event’s success. Each participant received a race pack, which included a t-shirt, face towel and medal, serving as a token of appreciation for their involvement.

The presence of Archbishop John Wong during the event added a significant touch of importance and inspiration. By actively participating in the 7km run alongside his friends, our Archbishop demonstrated his commitment to leading by example and engaging with the community. His involvement not only encouraged the participants but also highlighted the unity between the church and its members in pursuing a shared mission. The event also promoted physical fitness and provided a platform to celebrate achievements within the church community. Dinner was on sale after the run and walk event while enjoying the presentations from Sunday School students and youths. The stage performances prepared a platform for the younger generation to showcase their talents and dedication, adding an element of joy and encouragement to the event. Additionally, certificates were awarded to children who received their First Holy Communion and Confirmandis, acknowledging and recognising the growth of the young members in their faith journey.

One of the primary objectives of the Mission Run and Walk was to raise funds for the construction of the new church building. Recognizing the importance of a dedicated place of worship, the event organizers launched a coin box initiative to encourage children to contribute towards the building project. This initiative aimed to instil a sense of responsibility and generosity, teaching the younger generation the value of supporting a larger cause and making a meaningful impact.

With a total of 760 participants registered for the event, the Mission Run and Walk demonstrated the strong support and dedication of the local community towards the church’s mission. The collective effort and enthusiasm displayed by the participants, including Archbishop John Wong, showcased the unity and commitment of individuals coming together for a common purpose. The Mission Run and Walk organized by the Church of the Blessed Sacrament Labuan thus successfully embodied the theme “Life is a mission”. Through the event, participants embraced the idea of living purposefully, engaging in physical activity, and supporting the fundraising project for the new church building. The day was filled with inspirational moments, celebrations of achievements, and a sense of unity among the church community. By participating in this event, individuals not only contributed to their own physical well-being but also played a part in the growth and development of their faith community.
