Mark 14

12 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 13He sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water. Follow him. 14Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ 15Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.” 16The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover.22 While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.” 23Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. 25Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

In the gospel today, Jesus, the Second Person in the Blessed Trinity, instituted the Sacrament of Eucharist. The Lord who promised us His accompaniment when He said, “And know that I Am with you always; yes, to the end of time”, instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This He did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until He should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of His death and resurrection (CCC 1323).

We believe that in the Holy Eucharist, Jesus Christ gives His Body and Blood for us, so that we too might offer ourselves to Him in love and be united with Him in Holy Communion. In this way we are joined with the one Body of Christ, the Church.

The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen Gentium, 11). When we eat the broken Bread, we unite ourselves with the love of Jesus, who gave His body for us on the wood of the Cross; when we drink from the chalice, we unite ourselves with Him who even poured out His blood out of love for us.

Brothers and sisters, “The other sacraments, as well as with every ministry of the Church and every work of the apostolate, are tied together with the Eucharist and are directed toward it. The Most Blessed Eucharist contains the entire spiritual boon of the Church, that is, Christ Himself, our Paschal and Living Bread.” (Presbyterorum Ordinis 5).

In this solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, our very own Parish Feast Day, we will have a solemn procession to acknowledge the abiding presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. When the Eucharist is carried prayerfully through the streets in solemn procession, we give public witness of our faith and devotion toward the sacrament of the Eucharist.

Brothers and sisters, in this solemnity, let us pray more fervently for priestly vocation and, so doing, uphold Deacon Jerry Joseph Muhamat, who has been in our parish since June 2023. He will be ordained to the Sacred Order of Presbyter on 7th June 2024 at 10 am in Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu.

Brothers and sisters, with profound joy, let us welcome our Archbishop John Wong into our parish. Yes, in conjunction with his 25th Sacerdotal Anniversary last January, we thank God and may Divine blessing be upon His Grace all the more. Blessed Silver Sacerdotal Ordination Jubilee anniversary, Your Grace.

To one and all, Blessed Feast of Corpus Christi, and thank you for your diligent service in our mission of saving souls. With thanksgiving in our hearts, we will serve the Lord.
